Roger Emmott is a highly regarded steel management consultant, steel and iron ore expert witness, business developer, innovator and adviser to the global metals and mining sector. He has built up specialist and expert knowledge of steel and iron ore. Over more than 30 years he has advised over 50 clients and visited over 50 countries. His experience covers the full ferrous value chain from iron ore to downstream steel products.
Roger Emmott Associates Limited was founded in 2011 to help the steel, iron ore and metals and mining sector to learn, perform and grow. The firm has performed many assignments for clients in these market sectors. Expert Witness work forms an increasing part of the business, mainly within the metals industry with a recent assignment in the defence sector. The majority of cases have involved commercial disputes.
Prior to setting up his own firm, Roger successfully developed specialist B2B training for Steel Business Briefing (SBB) as well as developing the firm’s Research and
Consulting businesses into a significant and growing part of the firm. His expertise is especially strong in the steel value chain, from raw materials through to finished products. He is highly
experienced in steel end use analysis and forecasting. He has acted as the steel and iron ore expert on many disputes and has cross examination experience at Tribunals in London, The
Hague, Singapore and Hong Kong.
Roger has held senior positions with Atkins Plc in the UK and Hatch Associates of Canada. In this roles he gained in-depth experience of strategic, due diligence, market and feasibility studies including interview and research techniques, information synthesis, validation and presentation, working with CEOs and their senior teams.
He is an innovator with exceptional divergent thinking capabilities. He is good at seeing possibilities in complex situations and guiding and facilitating teams to achieve consensus on options.
He has solid experience in the design of events, whether they be strategic in nature, or are general workshops, or B2B training.
He is skilled at resolving complex issues relating to steel strategy, strategy implementation, business development, key account development and marketing in product and services-led businesses. A large proportion of his work has involved global teams often in different timezones and he has developed the virtual team skills to get the best from diverse groups that rarely if ever meet face to face. Colleagues say he is good to work with, whether leading, coaching, recruiting or inspiring international project teams to enable confident decision-making, transform organisations and deliver results.
Roger holds a BSc (Hons) in Metallurgy and Materials from the University of Birmingham, an MBA from London Business School, and a MA in Screenwriting from Bournemouth University. He is a Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining IOM3 (FIMMM) and also a Fellow of the Institute of Consulting (FIC) and a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute (FCMI). He is Past President of MinSouth, the local society for mining affiliated with the IOM3 (President 2016 - 17).
He is a regular commentator on steel industry matters and has been quoted in the Financial Times, Wall Street Journal Europe and many industry publications. He has been interviewed on the steel sector on Sky News, Channel 5 News and LBC. He has not yet appeared on the cover of Time but has been quoted there.
